Synopsis
According to Smith, D. (2010) in his book entitled “Introduction
to Journalism” it was stated that review writing is a writing that contains the
author's opinion along with factual information about something. Things that
are viewed can be films, books, music, art, places, or other objects. when
doing a review, the author gives his point of view which is usually based on a
rule of evaluating something. Smith also argues that when conducting a review,
the writer should convey honest, fair criticism, including suggestions for
improvement.
In writing a review, the writer should convey his
viewpoint clearly and meaningfully. Reviews can be started with a novelty
(feature) lead. It is recommended to combine elements of feature writing and
opinion writing. Give a review of all aspects. Use transitions to lead the
reader from one part of the story to the next. Last, conclude review with a
paragraph that ties the review together, which repeats an essential element
from the lead.
Reflection
Through the
material “Review
Writing" I learned that to review something, critical thinking is
needed. After studying this material, I realized that actually there are many
aspects that we can discuss about something. This learning also has deepened my
understanding about review and enhanced my ability to effectively communicate
my thoughts and opinion. One most important I have learned is the importance of
being objective and fair while do a review. Giving a review also cannot be
arbitrary, but must also be based on factual information regarding the matter
being reviewed. Presenting information in a structured an organized manner also
enables reader to easily grasp the main point we are trying to conveyed. at the
end of the review, we also need to confirm whether the things we review should
be recommended or not to readers, and give reasons. By studying this material,
I have come to realize that a review does not only aim to give our opinion on
something, but can also be a form of appreciation for the thing being reviewed.
After reading your blog, I discovered new information in the vocabulary table that you gave.
