Review Movie Elemental: Forces of Nature, A Romance of Two Elements that Defies the Laws of Nature

Tangerang, Jul 13, 23 – Pixar Animation Studios' latest animated film titled "Elemental: Forces of Nature" can be seen in Indonesian theaters starting on June 21, 2023. This story directed by Peter Sohn is a fantasy animation story that tells about the world of elements. 

The story begins with a fire element married couple who leave the fire world. They then moved to an elemental world where a wide variety of elements lived, such as water, soil, and air elements. To start a new life in the elemental world, the fire elemental couple opened a store selling various food and fire element supplies, until finally a fire village was formed in the elemental world. 

The story then continues in the adult life of the fire elemental couple's daughter named Ember Lumen. Ember is described as a woman who cannot manage emotions and has a fiery nature. One day, Ember is confronted by a water element man named Wade Ripple – a city inspection officer – who takes care of his father's shop problem. The two subsequently interact frequently to find a solution to Ember's father's shop problem, which then raises seeds of love between them. 

The film in outline raises the love story of two elements that cannot logically unite, which are packed in interesting and fun ways with seasoned comedies. The film also conveys a message about family, ideals and precious thing. The conflict in this story is arguably mild, and easy to understand for children's audiences.

When I saw this movie, I was amazed by its cinematography. The future metropolitan-style elemental world depictions were made as detailed as possible and fused with beautiful color selection. In addition, each elemental character is also well illustrated and unique. Quoting from the official Pixar website, it is said that According to color & shading art director Jennifer Chang, artists wanted to create a control between Fire and Water and a big part of that was in the look of the environments. "If Fires is represented by the reds, oranges, yellows—warm and dry—then the water district is the opposition of that," she says. "Everything's more slick, more reflective, more translucent, more transparent. And it's a world that represents somebody to Ember. When she's in that world it's uncomfortable." She added.

Overall, the film successfully presented an interesting story through its portrayal of unique animated characters in the form of elements. I recommend this movie to spend school vacation time with children. This film is worth watching because there are many messages that can be taken from the story.
