Reflection
Through discussions about introduction to the news, feature,
and editorial, I now realize
the importance of this course to improve students' writing skills and hone
their thinking skills. Learning about news makes students more aware of the
latest issues occurring in society. Then, by studying the features, students
are asked to enhance their understanding of the issues that occur. After that,
students are taught to hone their critical thinking skills and convey their
opinions through editorial writing. This skill is important for me as a learner
because it makes me more familiar with writing my opinions and ideas. Most
importantly, I have learned that through studying news writing, I can also
develop my digital skills through blogging. As a next step, I need to hone my
vocabulary enrichment to support my writing.
Summary
Based on my lecturer's notes during the first meeting of this
course – the news, articles and editorials – are designed to provide future
EFL teachers with the skills and knowledge to become effective
educators. The course integrates news, features and editorial writing into the
curriculum, providing real-world relevance and developing writing skills and
vocabulary.
News writing helps EFL student teachers stay informed about world events, while article writing helps improve their understanding of students' diverse circumstances and needs. Editorial writing teaches students to research, analyze, and form opinions as well as write persuasively. The course also covers ethical principles of journalism, interviewing techniques, and strategies for promoting blog content through social media. The material is informative and practical, providing a solid foundation for prospective EFL teachers to become effective educators.
